Kimberly Fishing Charters

The crew

Skipper: Mal Miles

Mal is one of the Top End’s most respected charter boat skippers and was probably born with a rod in his hands! His early years were spent in Geraldton, Western Australia checking cray pots with his Dad before school. He would have been the only kid in Australia to go to school with crayfish sandwiches in his lunchbox! After a 3 year initiation into the world of game fishing in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, a move to Darwin at the age of 12 saw Mal chasing world records for some of the Territory’s top sports fish, including Spanish Mackeral, Queenfish, Hammerhead and Tiger Sharks out of his Dad’s 12ft dinghy. And 25 years later he's still out there chasing 'em! There aren’t many places on the North Coast he hasn’t been to and fished so no matter where he takes you, you can be sure to find a fish or ten. Mal’s dry wit gives everyone a good laugh and you can rest assured that catching fish, your safety and awesome adventures are his only priorities once you step on board.

First Mate : Naomi Lacey

One of the few female fishing guides in the Top End, Naomi has been with Darwin Bluewater Charters for 4 years and is not to be underestimated in her fishing prowess. After finishing a close third in the 2006 Broome Sailfish Tournament, she thinks she knows a thing or two about bending rods! Apart from being a very switched on angler and guide, Naomi is also a magician in the galley. From chilli mudcrabs to coral trout pie, she always conjures up delicious dishes .We are phasing Gnomes out of the kitchen at present as she has just completed her Master V skipper’s ticket and wants to spend more time on the flybridge pretending to look important. (Mal is currently enrolled in Cooking 101 and has recently begun shaving his legs…Welcome to the new look Hyland C!)

Second Mate : Antony Stewart

Fresh out of school and kiwi-land, Antony joined us in early 2005 after proving his worth by oiling our outdoor setting! His enthusiasm for the job, his friendly manner and ability to get along well with anyone make him a valuable member of the Darwin Bluewater team. He is a qualified coxswain and loves his fishing. In his first year with us he caught our biggest barra and sailfish for the season………whilst off duty, thank God!

Swab : Jake the Parrot

Jake the Parrot is our friendly sunglasses and phone chewing mate who loves nothing more than a good feed and chat! She’s got heaps of character and has been the source of more than a few bird overboard rescue missions! Every good pirate needs a good parrot!
